In all honesty, fall won’t be here in L.A until like November or December, but that hasn’t stopped me from starting to plan out what pieces will transition me to fall once the day comes when the temps gloriously drop below 80. I know, all of you in cold weather climates are probably dying laughing and rolling your eyes at me. What can I say? I am an Arizona girl living in Southern California. I have been bred for warm weather. When I am looking for pieces for fall I really look for versatility. Things that I can layer with pieces when the weather gets even colder or things that will also be a great transition into spring, when temperatures start warming up again.
#1 A GREAT BOOTIE
It is no big surprise that a staple shoe is first on my list. You girls know I LOVE shoes. When I am looking for booties to start wearing as the weather starts to cool down, I actually tend to buy a peep-toe or perforated bootie. Perforated or laser-cut booties are going to be huge this fall and they are perfect for giving the look of a bootie while also keeping the shoe looking a little lighter (and more breathable). I have literally been eyeing these Jeffrey Campbell booties since last year. It might just be time to pull the trigger!
#2 LIGHTWEIGHT TOPS FOR LAYERING
I love having a few lightweight long sleeve tops for layering when fall comes around. They are perfect for cooler mornings, but I don’t absolutely fry when the temperatures start to rise mid-day. They are also great to have around to wear under cardigans or sweaters when winter sets in….or when I visit Utah since winter never really sets in here.
#3 A GREAT PAIR OF JEANS
We all know that I live for jeans. I am just not a super dressy, girly girl, so you will more often than not find me in jeans and a tee. I also wear jeans year round, even if that means I am sweating to death in the 100+ degree heat. This fall the raw hem look and cuffed jeans are a really hot trend. I am of course still loving my distressed denim and skinny jeans.
#4 A CARDIGAN OR LIGHT JACKET
My denim jacket goes on serious repeat during fall and spring. I wear that sucker out. I just love how versatile they are. I also like to have one or two lightweight cardigans in my closet too. They are great to put over a t-shirt. I keep a mix of light weight and heavier cardigans in my closet, because honestly a lot of times in LA a cardigan or a light jacket are really all I need even in the winter.
#5 A PRETTY SCARF
A scarf is such a great accessory to keep around this time of year. I love them because they are easy and basically take care of all the accessories you need for your outfit. #Winning! They also work great transitioning an outfit from day to night when the weather gets a little cooler because you can wear them as a wrap. I love double duty pieces like that!
