Q: Out of the businesses you have done or are currently doing what has been your favorite?
I LOVE this question! Before I answer it I am going to give you all an overview of what I have done the past 6 years.
2012- Had my first baby and started selling items on Ebay from around the house and items from garage sales.
2012- Launched Hello Fab, an online clothing and accessory boutique.
2014- Stopped my shop after having a miscarriage at 14 weeks and took a year break to rest and regroup.
2015- Started Fashion Blogging
2016- Social Media Consulting for Businesses and Bloggers
2016-2017- Sold LuLaroe + Lifestyle Posts on IG
2017- Current- Sell Maskcara Beauty & Fashion Blogging
Man it is hard to say what has been my favorite. If I had more time I would love to do it ALL! My first love was Hello Fab, my online boutique. I loved the boutique aspect because less of the focus was on me plus I could collaborate with other bloggers to grow my business. Also, back in 2012 bloggers didn’t charge for you to send them items- it was amazing! I collaborated with Cara Loren, Rachel Parcell, Abby Smith, and many more completely free of charge. Those were the days man! Furthermore, there is something really gratifying about having someone buy your product, you package and ship it, and then they love it and share about it. Selling physical products, including LuLaRoe, has been the most financially rewarding but it was also the most stressful. It is really hard to wear all the hats of a fast moving business.
Strictly fashion blogging in 2015 was probably my least favorite. Instagram was kind of a different place back then. There was NO authenticity or realness being portrayed by bloggers on IG (at least from my point of view). Nowadays there is so much more vulnerability and rawness online- I love it! I wish I would have been one of the very first “pioneers” but I think it took seeing other people being more real to give me the push and permission to do the same. I know there is so much perfectionism being portrayed on IG, but you can at least find a handful of cool girls willing to share their real life struggles mixed in with the pretty pictures. I hope that I can give others that same permission to be themselves and share the highs and lows of their life too. Everyone has the right to post and follow whatever they wish on social media. I personally have loved IG a lot more since I started sharing more real and vulnerable parts of my life (mixed-in with the highlight reel that IG is).
So to fiiiinally answer the question- what I am doing now is my favorite! I have really enjoyed switching my feed to more fashion based posts vs lifestyle ones. Now that I do primarily the white brick wall pictures I don’t have to have my phone out and in my families faces at special outings and occasions- my family (especially Josh) has really appreciated it too. Also, Instastories have really given the Ol’ IG such a breath of fresh air for me! I love that I can get on and chat with you girls in real time and so easily (with or without makeup on or real clothes). I also feel like I have finally found my niche- relatable life, motherhood, and fashion. I think it was always there but hidden underneath what I thought the typical fashion obsessed, Instagramer user wanted to see.
Last of all, thank you for following along with me on this virtual roller coaster. I have been here, there, and everywhere and I appreciate all the love and support along the way!
